Police are searching for a man who walked into a petrol station and set fire to a pool of petrol on the ground before running away.
Emergency services were called to a Z service station in central Hamilton about 1.30pm today after a man walked into the forecourt, lifted a pump nozzle and put it on the ground before activating it, police said.
He then lit the petrol with matches, before running away on foot.
A member of the public and staff from the service station put the fire out before fire services arrived.
Three petrol pumps were damaged and the service station had to be closed.
