Police are hunting a man who tried to pick up a nine-year-old boy after he got off a school bus on a rural Bay of Plenty road yesterday.
The man, who was in a white car, drove past the boy then turned around and approached him to join him, on a road in the lower Kaimais, 25km southwest of Tauranga, Detective Sergeant Les Warner of Tauranaga police said.
The boy reacted well and ran off.
"Police are very concerned by the actions of this person," Mr Warner said.
He appealed to anyone who saw the man and his car in the area between 2pm and 4pm yesterday to come forward.
The driver is described as in his 30s, with olive skin possibly part Polynesian. He was wearing a white T-shirt, possibly jeans and he had a pot belly.
