A Wellington taxi driver remains in hospital in a stable condition after being stabbed in Wellington in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Detective Sergeant Mike Priston of the Wellington CIB said the 60-year-old taxi driver picked up a man at a taxi rank in Kilbirnie near the intersection of Bay and Rongotai roads just after midnight, and drove him to Shropshire Avenue in Wilton.
"Once the taxi arrived at the destination, the male passenger stabbed the taxi driver in the chest and abdomen, before fleeing from the taxi," Mr Priston said.
The taxi driver remains in Wellington Hospital in a stable condition.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the passenger getting into the taxi in Kilbirnie or anyone who may have witnessed the incident in Shrophire Ave.
