Taupo police are on the hunt for a man who held up a supermarket in the town last night.
The man entered the Paetiki Super Value store shortly before 8pm armed with what appeared to be a short rifle and demanded money from the female shop assistant.
He left with a substantial amount of money from the till, Detective Sergeant Tony Manunui said.
The man fled from the store, running across Taharepa Road into an alleyway heading towards Elizabeth Street.
Police have obtained images of the offender from the store's security camera system.
He is described as Maori, about 20-years-old, of small build and short.
He had dark eyes, black hair and was wearing a white sweatshirt with black writing on the front and black trackpants with white stripes down the sides. His face was covered with a black balaclava.
