A man who pulled a knife on a security guard at the Feilding Warehouse remains at large.
Police Inspector at the police central communications centre, Mike Coleman, says the man had been caught shoplifting when he pulled the knife on the guard.
Mr Coleman says the guard was not injured in the incident which happened shortly after one this afternoon.
The man, who is believed to be in his 20s or 30s, made a quick getaway in a nearby car.
Following the attempted robbery, two local schools, Lytton Street School and Feilding Intermediate School, were put on lockdown as police hunted for the suspect.
