KEY POINTS:
Police are hunting an offender who kidnapped and seriously assaulted a Feilding man early this morning.
Inspector Steve Darroch of the police central communications centre said police were called after the kidnapped man turned up at an address in Feilding.
He had been beaten and had cuts to his head.
A vehicle believed to have been used in the incident had been located, but police were still looking for the man's attacker.
Police had launched an investigation and were examining the scenes involved, Mr Darroch said.
It was not yet known whether the offender was known to the victim.
"It's pretty early days at this point," he said.
Mr Darroch said later a man in his 40s had been held captive for about two hours. He told police he had been attacked with a sharp object during his ordeal.
He is now recovering in Palmerston North hospital.
