Police are seeking a driver believed to be responsible for a hit and run incident after a woman was hit by two separate cars in Christchurch last night.
Canterbury police district communications manager Stephen Hill said the incident occurred around 10.30pm on Christchurch's Barrington St.
"The female pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle which has then fled the scene.
"It appears that a second vehicle has then run over the victim, we are not sure whether the driver of the second vehicle was aware that a person was on the road at the time."
The woman was taken to Christchurch Hospital. It was possible the driver of the second vehicle mistook the woman for debris on the road, Mr Hill said.
