KEY POINTS:
Police are hunting the driver of the car that dragged a pedestrian 25m, leaving him seriously injured after a street brawl in Christchurch at the weekend.
Sergeant Dean Murray, of southern police communications, said there was a fight between two groups who had been at a party on Stevens Street in the suburb of Phillipstown, about midnight Saturday.
After the fight a vehicle hit a 29-year-old Christchurch man and dragged him for 25m, before fleeing.
The victim remained in an induced coma today with suspected broken legs, a broken pelvis, a punctured lung, fractured ribs and a damaged liver.
Detective Sergeant Greg Cottam it was a "classic case" of a vehicle being used as a weapon.
"Thankfully, his head injuries were superficial grazes and cuts. He's pretty lucky to be alive," he told The Press.
"It appears he was involved in the altercation but he didn't deserve to be run over."
He said police were still trying to establish the type of vehicle involved and he appealed for witnesses to come forward.
