Police are hunting a man who attempted to rob a Blenheim dairy this morning armed with a hammer.
The man, described as a large Polynesian male with black hair which was frizzy on top and a long ponytail at the back, with a large nose, entered the Showgrounds Store on Maxwell Road at 11.43am.
Armed with a hammer, he demanded cash from the shop attendant.
"He was unsuccessful in getting cash and ran from the shop shortly after and was last seen heading east on Litchfield Street," police said.
The shop attendant was shaken, but unharmed in the incident, police said.
