A bank robber handed a teller a note and made off with a small amount of cash at a Lower Hutt bank this morning.
Detective Sergeant George Campbell of the Hutt Valley CIB said the man entered the Westpac Bank, on the corner of Jackson and Queen Streets and approached a female teller, about 9.10am.
"The man asked for a sum of money and handed over a note. The teller gave him a small amount of cash and he then left on foot and ran across Jackson Street and headed in the direction of the Petone Railway Station," Mr Campbell said.
Mr Campbell said no one was harmed in the incident.
Police described the man as a Maori, of medium build, wearing a black beanie, dark gloves and a grey and black patterned hooded sweatshirt.
He also had a distinctive orange plaster above his left eye.
