Thames police are hunting a man they believe is hiding in Auckland, after he broke into the home of his ex-partner and stabbed a man in the stomach.
Detective John Adams of Thames CIB said Sean Osterman, 34, was remanded in an Auckland prison on six charges before being granted bail to a Thames home on Thursday.
Osterman broke into the home of his former partner on Friday morning, through a kitchen window and armed himself with three knives from the kitchen.
Mr Adams said when Osterman entered the living area of the home were he was confronted by the woman's partner.
"A confrontation took place and the other man was stabbed in the stomach.
"The wound was quite serious and required the victim to be transferred from Thames over to Waikato Hospital."
Osterman then fled into bush beside the Tapu-Coroglen Rd and police, using a dog to track him, failed to find him.
"We believe he will have attempted to reach Auckland where he has a number of contacts," said Mr Adams.
"We'd like to hear from anyone with information on his whereabouts or who may have picked him up or dropped him off in the Coromandel or further a field."
Mr Adams said Osterman has a history or violence and should not be approached.
Osterman is wanted in relation to the stabbing, breach of bail and breach of a protection order .
