KEY POINTS:
Dunedin police are hunting for a bald man who savagely assaulted and raped a young woman in the centre of the city last night.
Detective Sergeant Brett Roberts said a 21-year-old woman was attacked by a man she did not know when she was walking home about 2.30am.
He dragged her into the carpark off Rattray St in the Canongate area of Dunedin.
The woman suffered extensive serious injuries from the attack, including two black eyes, facial bruising, a swollen jaw, cut lip as well as multiple abrasions, he said.
The woman described her attacker as a bald, caucasian man in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing a white top and blue jeans.
Police want to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack, Mr Roberts said.
In particular a man who may have walked through the car park at the time and been told the "f... off" by the offender.
Police were currently examining the scene and canvassing the area, he said.
