KEY POINTS:
Rodney police hope an autopsy today will reveal the gender, age and cause of death of a body found in a burned-out vehicle on Monday night.
Police went to the car park at Maori Bay, Muriwai, soon after 7pm when volunteer firemen from Muriwai and Kumeu found the unidentifiable body inside a Toyota Hilux.
Police yesterday completed a scene examination and today a post mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death and establish the identity of the deceased.
The burned-out vehicle has been placed in secure storage for further forensic examination by ESR and police.
Orewa CIB want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the Maori Bay car park at Muriwai throughout yesterday and last night.
They also want anyone who has any knowledge of the movements of any Toyota Hilux vehicle seen in the Muriwai area throughout Monday to contact them.
