Police are holding out little hope a Waikato dairy farmer is still alive, three months after he disappeared.
Father-of-two Amanjeet Bains, 29, has not been seen since April 18. He left his Morrinsville home that morning and was seen at a Warkworth restaurant north of Auckland later that day.
His late model Holden Commodore was found abandoned south of Mangonui in the Far North the next day.
Police conducted ground, sea and an aerial search for Mr Bains but found no trace of him.
Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter from Matamata police said today he now believed that was now little chance of finding Mr Bains, who had a history of depression, alive.
"We are pretty happy there is nothing suspicious relating to Amanjeet's disappearance," he told NZPA.
There was nothing to indicate anyone else had driven Mr Bains' car to the Far North or that he was the victim of violence. His bank accounts had not been touched.
