Police investigating the killings of Palmerston North woman Christine Lundy and her daughter Amber, aged 7, yesterday released pictures of jewellery missing from their home.
The jewellery was believed to be in a distinctive jewellery box which police want to track down.
It was last seen at the Lundy home in the suburb of Kelvin Grove on August 29, the day before the bodies of Mrs Lundy and Amber were discovered.
They were bludgeoned to death by a heavy instrument with at least one sharp side and possibly a handle. Police are still searching for the murder weapon.
Detective Sergeant Mark Painter said police were focusing on finding the missing box, or one like it, so they could photograph it and canvass second-hand dealers.
The jewellery box, with a distinctive clown face on the front, was about 30cm high and 20cm wide.
Mr Lundy noticed it missing from the family home when police took him back more than a week ago. He spent most of last Friday with police trying to identify which items of jewellery were inside the box.
Missing are:
A sapphire and diamond pendant with a gold chain.
A gold bracelet with a locket.
A garnet brooch.
A sapphire pendant on a gold chain.
Detective Sergeant Painter said police had received a good response from the public about the jewellery box, but had so far failed to identify one like it.
He said it was possible it could have been taken to a second-hand dealer or pawn shop.
