KEY POINTS:
Police went door-to-door speaking to residents of a west Auckland suburb today after a 13-year-old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted last weekend.
The teenager was enticed into a car by a man described as a Pacific Islander while walking in Glen Eden on Saturday afternoon. She was physically and sexually abused before she was dropped off.
Detective Sergeant Megan Goldie said today a team of about a dozen police officers went door-to-door in Glen Eden this afternoon hoping residents may have either witnessed the girl and the man in conversation before the abduction or other sightings of them.
"This was a brazen, premeditated sexual attack on an innocent young victim," she said.
"We want this offender caught before he carries out any further attacks of this nature on any other young girls.
"The public can help us in this search, especially if they've seen a similarly described male acting suspiciously anywhere in the west Auckland area."
Miss Goldie said police were confident someone had seen the vehicle with the man and girl in the west Auckland suburbs of Glen Eden, Titirangi, and Woodlands Park sometime between 2-3.30pm on Saturday.
"The sight of both a 13-year-old girl and a Polynesian male aged in his 30s to 40s travelling together is unusual, so if anyone sighted these two persons in a medium sized, silver toned vehicle, they'll have vital information that will assist this investigation."
Miss Goldie said that the girl was slowly recovering from her ordeal, she said.
"It's been a very traumatic experience for her."
Her attacker's approach has been plausible, resulting in the young girl being lured into his car.
"We urge parents to reaffirm to their children to always keep themselves safe."
