Police will get a pay rise which barely keeps pace with inflation.
Police Association President Greg O'Connor says a 3 per cent increase has been settled subject to ratification.
He says it is disappointing the pay rise will be funded from the existing budget with the Government providing no new money.
Mr O'Connor says the police budget is so fragile that even this small pay increase will put pressure on resources.
Earlier today, Police Minister George Hawkins gave an assurance that the deferred police recruit intakes would happen eventually.
Police Commissioner Rob Robinson has admitted the delays could lead to gaps in the force's ranks. He says he has passed that information on to the Minister.
But Mr Hawkins says the recruiting will occur within the current financial year. He says the recruits will come on stream as they are needed.
