Police officers will get a 2 per cent pay rise this year.
Police Association president Greg O'Connor said he was happy with the result of the arbitration, which was announced yesterday.
The 2 per cent pay rise for the association's 8500 members, or about 98 per cent of sworn officers, would meet or exceed most members' expectations, Mr O'Connor said.
The starting salary for a constable will rise to $51,000.
Police national office general manager of human resources Wayne Annan said the organisation would now work through the implications of the settlement.
The last pay rise for police officers was 4 per cent for the financial year to June 30 and the latest rise will apply from July 1.
