Auckland will get 56 new constables as part of a $388 million government project.
The four-year Safer Communities Package will allocate 178 new police officers in the first year across the 12 police districts, with 31 also sent to the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua to support increased recruitment efforts.
Eleven staff will also be deployed to focus on national and international organised crime.
Nationally, 880 more police officers and 245 non-sworn staff will be introduced over the next four years.
The biggest number of new constables will go to Auckland, with 56, while Waikato (24), Northland (20) and Eastern (19) will have a swelling of their ranks.
