KEY POINTS:
An elderly woman missing from a rest home in suburban Auckland has been found in the downtown area of the city.
Police were concerned for the safety of Elizabeth Alpe, 76, a dementia sufferer who also suffered from short term memory loss, after she went missing from the Selwyn Village in Pt Chevalier since before 1am today.
However, a member of the public called to tell police she was found in an apartment building at 5pm in the central city area, 8km east of Pt Chevalier.
Inspector Ian Brooker of the police northern communications centre said Ms Alpe was disoriented but otherwise in good health. Police were taking her home this evening.
