KEY POINTS:
Police have found a body they believe to be that of missing Bay of Islands man Kerry Michael Witt, who was swept down a river in last week's floods.
Mr Witt and his partner, Lavona Cherrington, both lost their lives in the floods. It is believed they attempted to walk across a ford to their home on Waikare Valley Road, between Kawakawa and Russell, late on Tuesday.
Ms Cherrington's body was found on Wednesday and police found the second body early this afternoon, in the Waikare creek during a search of its banks.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said the body was yet to be formally identified but police believed it was Mr Witt's.
The deaths have been referred to the coroner.
