Police have found the body of missing Sumner man Jonathan McCarthy.
The lawyer and keen surfer disappeared from his Christchurch home about 7am Wednesday.
He had been expected in Kaikoura several hours later but police were alerted when he failed to arrive.
Police and volunteers from Sumner Lifeboat located Mr McCarthy's body on the shoreline at Taylors Mistake, 16km southeast of Christchurch, about 3.30pm yesterday, Lyttleton police Sergeant Phil Newton said.
His death was not suspicious and had been referred to the coroner.
