Police find body of missing diver

Police have found a diver reported missing off the coast of Omaio, in the Bay of Plenty.

The 30-year-old male was found dead by search teams today, said Northern Communications Inspector Chris Robinson.

The diver was found close to where he entered the water, he said.

Mr Robinson said the diver had drowned.

The man became separated from his group of friends when diving and was reported missing yesterday morning.

Police teams from three centres, the national dive squad, local divers, the coastguard and aerial efforts joined together to locate the man.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
