Police investigating the attempted abduction of two Auckland schoolgirls last week have submitted a blanket to the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) for examination.
The blanket fell from the kidnapper's car and features a large image of a tiger head with a dark blue border.
Police have asked for information from anyone who recognises the blanket as belonging to someone they know.
The 17-year-old and 14-year-old students were approached separately near Western Springs College last Friday.
The 17-year-old was told she would be shot if she did not get into the car on Meola Rd at 8.30am. She screamed and ran to the school where staff alerted police.
Two hours later, a 14-year-old was dragged into a car as she walked to school on Motions Rd in Western Springs about 10.30am.
She jumped out of the car at an intersection, and ran to her nearby home.
Police have not yet confirmed whether it was the same man but said it was likely because of the proximity of the attempts and from the descriptions of witnesses.
Criminal profiling suggested he had cased out the area in the days before the abduction.
He is described as a European in his late 20s to early 30s, 1.75m tall, with a skinny build, hazel eyes and a croaky voice.
