Police are today knocking on doors near where a 11-year-old boy was abducted in West Auckland almost two weeks ago.

They are still searching for the person believed to have abducted the boy on November 17.

The boy was picked up by a stranger near the Ranui train station and subjected to a four-hour sexual assault before being dropped back off in the area.

A grey-coloured van is thought to be involved.

Police doorknocking on Don Buck Rd today had social media users speculating there had been an attempted abduction.

But police told the Herald they did not attend "any job of that nature today".

A spokeswoman said: "We do have a strong police presence in the area as we continue to investigate the incident in Ranui. We are carrying out area enquiries and continuing to check if anyone has CCTV footage."

Since the horrific attack, there has been reports of other possible attempted abductions in the area.

Last week, a man asked a 12-year-old boy walking home from school to get in his dark-coloured ute on Swanson Rd in Ranui.

Also last week, an 11-year-old girl was reported to have fled a man driving a dark red or maroon 4X4 at 8.30am while she waited for a school bus on Wairere Rd in Waitakere.

Police last week said they had narrowed their appeal for information to focus on any suspicious activity on Swanson and Metcalfe Rds about 4.15pm on the day of the Ranui attack.

Previously, the appeal for information was wider and encompassed the entire 3.55pm to 8pm timeframe of the 11-year-old boy's abduction.
