KEY POINTS:
A police dog narrowly missed being run over when a driver rammed a police car while trying to escape from the scene of burglary near Hamilton early today.
Police were returning from an armed incident in Enderley when they were called to reports of a break-in about 1.30am and found a suspicious car parked by the Rukuhia School, about 8km south of Hamilton.
Letting his dog out of the patrol car, a police dog handler went to investigate the car when it suddenly reversed at them, narrowly missing the dog and hitting the police vehicle.
A police spokesman said the car then sped off toward Hamilton with the occupants throwing objects, stolen in the burglary of a barn near the school, at pursuing police vehicles.
Road spikes were used in Melville to slow the vehicle's progress and the three occupants attempted to flee, running toward Waikato Hospital.
Two of the car's occupants were tracked by a police dog and a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were arrested while officers were still searching for a 22-year-man this morning.
The pair face a variety of charges relating to the burglary, reckless driving and failing to stop.
Meanwhile, a man is in custody in relation to the original incident in Enderley about 10.45pm where police received reports of a woman being chased down a street and a man allegedly holding a handgun to her head.
Police established a cordon around a Dryden Road address and a man gave himself up after voice appeals.
He was expected to appear in Hamilton District Court today.
No firearm was found during a search of the property.
