A police handler and his dog Quake are making a good recovery after being mauled by two other dogs while looking for burglars in Auckland yesterday.
The duo were tracking two offenders in Mt Wellington, south of the central city, when two terriers came out of a property and attacked Quake, said Senior Sergeant Pete Pedersen, who heads the dog section at Ellerslie.
Quake had emergency medical treatment for 10 puncture wounds and the handler suffered a puncture wound to his wrist trying to separate the dogs.
Mr Pedersen said both were expected to be back at work within a couple of weeks.
