KEY POINTS:
A police dive team has arrived in Bay of Plenty to help the search for a woman who went missing on a diving trip.
The 29-year-old woman was one of four divers from Waikato who had been looking for scallops just off Motiti Island, about 30km east of Mt Maunganui.
Search and rescue teams were alerted when she failed to surface about 7.40am today.
Sergeant Lester Polglase of Tauranga police said the divers were friends and were all qualified.
Local rescue teams had been looking for the woman since this morning and they were joined by the police dive team about 4.30pm this afternoon.
Mr Polglase said conditions on the water were good.
Police had spoken to the other members of the woman's party and were trying to establish a precise chain of events this afternoon.
