Police officers first on the scene at a fatal Hawke's Bay car crash were shocked to find a grim bumper sticker on the wrecked car.
Jesse Uncles, 21, was a back-seat passenger in the 1997 Silver Mitsubishi Lancer when it crashed and claimed his life on August 8.
Eastern District's acting road policing manager Senior Sergeant Greg Brown told Stuff.co.nz officers picking up the pieces at the scene saw a sticker on the car that read "If I die speeding don't cry because I was smiling".
The sticker was a tribute to Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker who died after the Porsche he was travelling in crashed on November 30, 2013.
"I can tell anyone who cares to listen that someone who says something like that has never been the first on the scene of a crash like this one. The dying aren't smiling," Brown said.
