KEY POINTS:
Police continue to deny they subjected a motorist to a racist roadside interrogation, with one officer allegedly pulling down the man's pyjama pants and calling him a "monkey".
The allegations, described by leading Queen's Counsel Peter Williams as the worst racial incident he has heard of in his legal career, have been referred to the Police Complaints Authority.
Police say 29-year-old David Newell was speeding the night he was stopped, and failed a breath test. He was then taken to Balmoral Police Station and given access to the duty solicitor.
Police allege Newell pulled down his own pants, then claimed he was a Kenyan diplomat. Newell denies those claims.
