Police have defended the time it took emergency services to reach the south Auckland liquor store owner fatally shot in an armed robbery.
Navtej Singh, 30, a father of three young children, was shot in the chest during the robbery at Manurewa about 9pm on Saturday and died early this morning.
Police are looking for three men captured on the store's security footage and a fourth man who drove their getaway car.
Detective Inspector Jim Gallagher told media today police were relying on feedback from the public to identify the men.
He said people who knew the men would recognise them instantly from the footage.
He defended the time it took for police to get to the scene and for ambulance workers to be able to enter the store.
In any emergency callout involving firearms, police had to follow a standard procedure to ensure the safety of everyone, he said.
Mr Singh's colleague Gurwinder Singh had criticised the response time from police and ambulance services.
