A late-night kiss for a cop saw a Blenheim man end up in cells on Saturday night.
The incident happened after police were called to a party that was getting out of control and the man refused to leave, Constable Michelle Stagg said.
Police offered to take him home and he grabbed an officer and kissed him on the face, the Marlborough Express reported.
When he was arrested he allegedly tried to headbutt the officer in the patrol car and allegedly kicked him in the shins.
At the police station he headbutted the perspex screen at a counter and tried to headbutt a second officer, Miss Stagg said.
A 40-year-old unemployed man has been charged with offensive behaviour, assaulting police, resisting arrest and possessing cannabis.
