KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating a second carjacking in the lower North Island within 10 hours.
Inspector James Taare said a man was pulled from his car and beaten in Stokes Valley, in Lower Hutt, about 1.45am today.
Mr Taare said patrols had not yet found the vehicle.
The driver was taken to Hutt hospital for treatment.
Yesterday afternoon an armed man attempted to hijack a car in Masterton.
Inspector Steve Darroch of the police central communications centre said about 4.30pm the man threatened the occupants of a car with a knife in Queen St, and attempted to take the vehicle.
The occupants managed to drive off and called police.
The alleged offender was apprehended by police a short time later.
When searched he was found to be in possession of four knives and a hammer, Mr Darroch said.
The 20-year-old was due to appear in Masterton District Court on Monday charged with attempted aggravated robbery and other offences.
