West Auckland police plan to resume searching at low tide this morning for a man who walked into the water at West Harbour on Saturday night and has not been seen since.
The 22-year-old was understood to have gone into the water near Luckens Reserve just after midnight following a domestic dispute.
During the search yesterday the Westpac Rescue Helicopter had to winch a volunteer fireman to safety after he became stuck in mud up to his thighs.
A helicopter spokesman said a flyover of the area yesterday morning had failed to show any sign of the missing man.
Henderson acting Senior Sergeant Ian Byrne said the search, which included a police inflatable boat, had been scaled down as the tide came back in.
