KEY POINTS:
Police are no closer to finding a man's sex attacker in Wellington nearly 10 days ago.
They are hunting for a man with a distinctive tattoo on his chin who allegedly attacked a 21-year-old man in suburban Newtown on New Year's Day.
The victim told police the offender threatened him with a weapon and forced him into a secluded car parking area where he was sexually attacked.
Detective Sergeant Zane Smith said today police had almost finished trawling through closed circuit television footage supplied by local businesses, but still had a lot of information from the public to get through.
They were also waiting for forensic testing to be completed.
The identikit picture supplied to police by the man showed a solidly built Maori in his mid-20s to early 30s with a distinctive tattoo on his chin.
The offender was wearing a green "50 Cent" rapper hooded sweatshirt, faded black baggy jeans and red and white sneakers, and was about 1.8m tall.
Mr Smith said the public had given police a lot of names to follow up of people who fitted the description.
"We've still got some avenues of enquiry, we just haven't finalised anything as of yet," he said.
"We've still got a lot to do. We're still sifting through a lot of information we got from the public."
Mr Smith said the man who was attacked was staying with friends and was coping well considering the circumstances.
