Police Commissioner Mike Bush has been reappointed for another three years, Police Minister Judith Collins announced.
He was appointed in April 2104 and his term will expire on April 2, 2020.
He is a former District Commander for Counties Manukau, former Deputy Commissioner Operations and former police liaison officer based in Bangkok.
Ms Collins said his focus would be on modernizing the police workforce "and building a more open and inclusive culture to deliver a world class police force that better reflects the communities they serve."
The Police Commissioner is appointed by the Governor General under the Policing Act 2008 on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
