KEY POINTS:
The Commission of Inquiry into Police Conduct could be released in the next fortnight.
The $3.6 million inquiry was set up in February 2004 to explore police handling of allegations of sex offending against their own.
The report by Dame Margaret Bazley is due to be given to the Governor-General by the end of the month and NZPA understands it will be released on or around April 3.
Prime Minister Helen Clark ordered the inquiry ago after several historic sex allegations against police officers surfaced.
Earlier this month she hinted Dame Margaret's report would create a stir.
"When it comes out, no doubt there will be plenty to discuss."
The completion of the report follows the acquittals by a jury earlier this month of former policemen Brad Shipton, Bob Schollum and Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards on charges of kidnapping and indecently assaulting a then-16-year-old girl more than 20 years ago.
Last year the same three men were acquitted of historic sex charges against Rotorua woman Louise Nicholas. Shipton and Schollum are already in prison for a different rape -- of a Mount Maunganui woman 18 years ago.
There has been a public outcry since that information was made public after court suppression orders were lifted.
