Police are finalising their investigation into Mangere MP Taito Phillip Field, confirming today that they had completed interviews.
Officers involved in the six-month investigation into Mr Field expect to forward the file to Crown lawyers in about a week's time.
"The file is still to be completed. It hasn't been finalised yet for any legal opinion," a national headquarters spokesman said.
Last month police interviewed the former Labour MP, who is now an independent, twice about allegations he took money from constituents and gave immigration assistance to Asian overstayers in return for cheap labour.
Possible charges were bribery and corruption.
Once Crown solicitors get the file it will take some time to prepare an opinion.
Mr Field resigned from Labour in February after the party moved to expel him. He has denied he acted illegally.
