Police will view footage from security cameras in an area where an Auckland truck driver was attacked in a case of road rage.
Daily Freight driver Paul Molnar received a blow to the top of his head with an unidentified weapon in Onehunga on Thursday.
Police are hoping footage from cameras at the intersection and run by the local business association may shed light on the attack. They are visiting businesses on the busy road and want to hear from any witnesses.
The assault was the second serious road-rage incident in recent weeks.
Truck driver Barry Fletcher was beaten unconscious with a claw hammer in Mangere last month by Toma Lauaki, who accused him of putting his family's lives at risk.
Police investigating the latest case say witnesses reported "aggressive driving by both vehicles" in Church St before the attack.
"There was definitely some disagreement going on by the movements of the vehicles," said Sergeant Darryl Simeti.
He urged the driver of a late-model, four-door light-blue car to come forward and police could get his version. The driver has been described as a Pacific Islander, 30 to 40, heavyset, 170cm.
Mr Molnar has said the driver made no attempt to merge and became stuck behind turning traffic.
When Mr Molnar stopped to make a delivery in Onehunga the driver approached and accused him of endangering his baby's life.
"He said, 'I feel like belting ya ... smacking you with a hammer like the other guy."
Mr Simeti said cases of road rage were not uncommon, although most involved fists and not weapons.
