Two men led police on a high-speed pursuit through Auckland's eastern suburbs tonight after they were spotted in stolen car allegedly used in a dairy robbery.
Police said a motorway patrol unit saw the car, which was wanted in connection with the robbery of a dairy in South Auckland, on the Southern Motorway about 7pm.
The car sped away and left the motorway at Mt Wellington.
The patrol gave chase but the pursuit was abandoned within a few minutes because the car was being driven at very high speed in an erratic and dangerous manner, police said.
Police said their Eagle helicopter kept the car in sight as it drove around Mt Wellington, Panmure, Glen Innes and Remuera at high speed for about 25 minutes.
