Police chase man in pursuit across central Auckland

Counties-Manukau police chased a man across central Auckland this morning, when he fled from police wanting to question him in relation to an armed robbery investigation.

Police said the man "eluded" officers for a short time, during a police pursuit around central Auckland about 6.45am, which ended at the North Western motorway near Western Springs.

The man surrendered to police and is now assisting them in their inquiries, police said.

Nobody was injured during the pursuit.

The incident happened while police were executing a number of search warrants at day-break, as a result of a seven-month investigation into a group of criminals suspected of committing armed robberies.

Another person sought by police in relation to the inquiry has also surrendered, and is assisting police.
