Police in the central North Island have been involved in a dangerous long distance pursuit.
Senior Sergeant Ed Van Den Broek said the chase began in Taupo when a car believed to be linked to a theft refused to stop.
He said when the vehicle moved onto State Highway Five toward Rotorua, police were pelted with bottles.
Spikes were used at Hemo Gorge, but the driver continued on, driving on the wheelrims.
The vehicle eventually came to rest on Fenton Street in Rotorua with five people arrested, the youngest being just 13-years-old.
