A car involved in a Remuera burglary eluded police across Auckland city this morning, before crashing in Parnell.
Police said the light blue Holden was seen leaving the scene of the burglary around 9am this morning by witnesses.
The car was then spotted by police at Wash World on StLukes Road, but when police approached the vehicle it sped off, out of sight of police.
The vehicle was then found by another police unit on Symond St, but was again lost after it pulled in Anzac Avenue.
Police said the fleeing driver was then pursued by police on Beach Rd, before abandoning the chase at the bottom of Parnell Rise due to the speed of the driver.
The Holden then drove up Parnell Rise and towards Broadway when it crossed the centre line onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into a stationary police vehicle, near the Blind Institute quarter of an hour later.
A witness told Newstalk ZB four police cars tried to block the road, and when the vehicle being chased tried to get through it was rammed by one of the police cars.
He said the driver got out of the car and fled the scene, to be pursued on foot by at least 10 officers who chased him down an alley.
Two dog vans arrived and joined the chase.
Police said there were no injuries.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with burglary and dangerous driving, amongst other charges.
