Diversions are in place after a vehicle has collided with another following a short police chase in Mangere this morning.
Counties Manukau Police spokeswoman Natalie Swart said police saw the vehicle driving the wrong way through a roundabout about 10.29am and pursued the vehicle for about one minute after the driver refused to stop.
The vehicle then slammed into a van before hitting a power pole at the intersection of Massey Road and Walter Street, Mr Swart said.
"The male driver of the offending vehicle ran from the scene and hitched a ride with a passing motorist before officers were able to catch up with him," she said.
A female passenger in the offending vehicle was taken to Middlemore Hospital with moderate injuries, while the man driving the van was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Two passengers in the van escaped uninjured.
The Serious Crash Unit are at the scene and diversions are in place along Massey Road.
Police urge motorists to avoid the area.
