KEY POINTS:
Four teenagers have been charged with assaulting a fellow New Plymouth Boys' High School boarder last year.
The charges stem from a November 18 attack in which a 17-year-old student had to jump out of a window to escape his assailants.
He suffered two black eyes, a swollen jaw and a cut to his face that needed stitches.
Police said the alleged attackers, who were also boarders at the time, had been jointly charged with assault with intent to injure.
The three 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old were to appear in New Plymouth District Court on March 12.
The charges follows the release of a reeport at the end of last month which found a culture of abuse among hostel students at the school.
The report, which was sparked by the incident, said the school's principal failed to properly address the behaviour.
The report was commissioned by the school's board of trustees.
In light of the findings, the school has pledged change and to establish a committee consisting of staff, board members and students to "address concerns identified" and report to the school monthly.
