Police charge youth after death of 16-year-old in park

Police have arrested and charged an 18 year old Mangere youth after a 16-year-old died in Middlemore Hospital today.

Poaru Brother Akatapuria, of Otara, was found seriously injured after a fight at David Lange park in Mangere yesterday, Counties Manukau police said.

Mr Akatapuria was put on life support yesterday but died this afternoon.

The 18-year-old will appear in Manukau District Court tomorrow charged with the assault. Police said he may face further charges.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.
