Police have arrested a man who allegedly used a knife to hijack a car and then crashed it on the North-Western Motorway.
Police allege the 20-year-old threatened the driver of Saab convertible in central Auckland and took the car for a joy ride.
Detective Sergeant Terry Readon told One News that after crashing the Saab, the man approached an elderly lady reversing out of a property and attempted to take her car, but was scared off by the woman's son.
Police have charged the man with aggravated robbery, dangerous driving and assault.
