Police are urging hunters to "consider others and think safety" as the duck shooting season opens today.
Police Central Communications said it had received 15 calls this morning from people concerned about inconsiderate or thoughtless use of firearms as the season opens.
Police said the calls related to shooting near residential areas in particular.
"While most hunters are being sensible others need to stop and think about how they might be disturbing others before they start shooting", Inspector Steve Darroch said.
Police also wanted to remind hunters about firearms safety and being careful around boats.
"We want to avoid shooting or boating accidents this weekend," said Mr Darroch, "a moment's inattention can have tragic consequences."
