Hastings police have recaptured a man who escaped from Hawke's Bay Prison on Thursday.
Senior Sergeant Ross Smith said Raniera Harris spent a day and a half on the run before after he escaped from a work party.
He was found early on Friday evening.
"The vehicle he used in his escape was seen entering a Hastings residence by a police patrol car," Mr Smith said.
Harris had been charged with escaping and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
He was jailed in late January for burglary and shoplifting.
