KEY POINTS:
Waikato police will cast their recruiting hooks among a group of youngsters who have won a place in a Kids' Gone Fishing Day in Raglan on Saturday.
More than 100 intermediate schoolchildren have won places in the competition, more than twice the number from last year, and police said they would have a police recruitment team with the youngsters.
Senior Sergeant Lance Tebbutt of Hamilton police said the event, held in conjunction with the police organisation Bluelight, would give the children the chance to test their fishing skills on a boat trip on the harbour.
"All the emergency services will be out there supporting the event and police will be providing a dog section and search and rescue display.
"Intermediate age kids may be a bit young but we're keen on casting our lines out early," said Mr Tebbutt.
